I am very surprised to see that you have something from Beautik style for the latest press events. I admire you a lot and I am sorry that you didn’t kept your own style that was pretty unique. I have visited the 3 perfumeries(Madison, Beautik and Elysee) and you and Beautik offer a good alternative for the market. Elysee is something without any identity.

    Hello!

We appreciate your comment and we hope to win you over to be amongst our close clients. Because if you already were, you would know that we were the first in everything. The first, too, to host such types of events, and the first to make a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqkyZmnlWe4.
I’m used to copycats and plagiarism and I don’t expect our market to be any better. Worse, if anything (which it is).

Thank you for bringing it up; if you didn’t, I wouldn’t have had a chance to make my point.

Thank you for the answer, I was talking about the fact that now the event was hosted in a restaurant and not in your shop like before, pictures with VIP and behind a big pannel with Madison logo, etc…anyway I like Madison and I admire you. It was just a point of view. I apologize if I disturbed you with these comments. I thank you and Beautik for the high quality brands you gave us so far.
Are you launching new brands this year? My favourite from Madison is Creed and Nasomatto.
Good luck for the future and I send you all my best wishes.

Oh, not at all! I welcome your feedback.

Well, the story of the event is that we needed to do a “picnic” AND we needed to invite our clients. The stores are too small to be able to accommodate so many people… When Camille Goutal came last year, we managed to improvise and build a tent in the yard adjacent to the store, but we had so many problems with the neighbors, that we just left that option out.
And so, getting back to the picnic theme, we also didn’t have many alternatives, except a e garden. But being out in the open leaves too much room to chance in regards to the weather (in retrospect, I’m glad we opted for a restaurant because that day it rained for almost the entire afternoon).

As for the photo board…we started doing it with our first event (Camille Goutal) onwards. Why? It’s the way to do it and it’s professional to have everyone represented on the board (our sponsors, our partners), with photo opportunities. I really like that, so yes, you can blame me for it; I’ll take it. :)

And can I just say something else, too, on the VIP topic: many of those people tour the parties in town because it’s the thing to do to appear on the social scene. But EVERYONE who came to this event is a client of ours, they wear one or more of our fragrances; and that’s more than a lot of people can say about their guests.

I also hope not to disappoint in the future, and thanks for the good thoughts.

We launch two brands per year, spring and fall. Fall will bring something new, but I can’t disclose it yet. :) I’m sure you understand. But stay tuned to the blog because it is here that you’re going to find out about it.

PS-newness in September from existing brands: Back to Black by Kilian, Blanche by Byredo, Mandragore Pourpre by Annick Goutal, Succes is a job in NY by Bond No. 9.

Thank you very much again for your answer. As I mentioned in my first message I admire you a lot, you had the courage to start such a business here in Romania and I am not afraid to say Romania is a very “special” market. Everyone smells the same and if it is not Gucci or Armani , Bvlgari is not a fragrance. No offence to the brands mentioned but I started not to wear them since I saw that everybody is doing so. Moreover the guys wearing this are tipical… you know what I mean the tipical pictures used for the UK newspapers to show something about Romania:))

I will continue to be interested in the new launhes and new perfumes of your brands.
One suggetsion, I hope this is something realistic….Why don’t you merge with Beautik like this we can have all the beautiful brands together: Creed, Caron, Clive CH, etc… For me as a client is a good idea:))

  6. Comment by Madeleine on July 7, 2009 8:03 am

I don’t need to merge to have those brands. :) It is my choice not to have them, despite them contacting us.
I offer a choice, tradition which is contemporary, sought after, hot, desirable. Classy, not dusty. Not to offend anyone’s tastes…

Hi Madeleine ! :) Congrats on the Byredo launch, it looks like it was a very nice event from the video. I need to explore this line more, have only smelled 2 so far. Which ones are your favorite?

I am really excited about the new Kilian Back in Black, cannot wait to test this one ! And now I am dying of curiosity to know which new line you are launching this fall :) By the way, any updates on the Tom Ford Collection?

P.S. - I got another fragrance from Madison this week ! Someone I know was in Bucharest and got it for me :)

Long time no see! Glad to hear you’re smelling nice, as always.

About Byredo: although the newest fragrance, Bal d’Afrique, is the one I keep running out of, I am a Gyspy Water fan. Orris root and vanilla are top ingredients for me, and there’s enough freshness for the day (I can’t distinguish it exactly, but knowing there’s a trace of pine needles is what does the trick).
I’m curious about Blanche; Infusion d’Iris is one of my favorites for the summer, and Blanche is in the same line, of clean, white, crisp, soapy…

We have Back to Black at the stores! Just a tester, for now. :) Very androgynous, on the sweet side (there’s vanilla, but the honey is what dominates on my skin); I’m just puzzled because there’s so much harp on the tobacco, but on me it smells nothing like it; it runs musky, which is not a bad thing at all.
Anyway, I just can’t get tired of Kilian. I went through my phases of Love, then Cruel Intentions, and now I’m stuck with Beyond Love (and I am so not a tuberose addict—but this one is green and coconutty in a very unique way that works for me). Liasons Dangereuses is our best seller, and I just cannot understand why…. I can’t get over the smell of fermented plums.
And for men, I absolutely adore Straight to Heaven. Have you tried it?

And no…. no news on TF… no idea about what new intro we’ll do. I’m not very inspired by what’s out there. And there are a lot of new fragarnce launches from the existing lines that if nothing good develops, I’ll pass this season.

And finally, what did you get?

Thank you for the compliment, that is very kind of you.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention what fragrance I got from Madison : it’s PG Cadjmere :) Not exactly a summer scent, but I’ve been wanting to get it for a while now and couldn’t wait any longer :) Besides, fall and winter are not so far away :) It’s one of my favorite PG scents, smells very much like Christmas to me for some reason, it’s a combination between the smell of the Christmas tree and delicious desserts baking in the oven with a touch of coconut. Just perfect for that time of the year :)

Thank you for the thoughts on Byredo, will investigate this line more :)

I had no idea you already had the Back To Black testers, I forgot to ask when I called the store to ask for Cadjmere availability. Do you usually offer samples with purchases or have only the tester bottles in stores? I completely forgot to ask about samples. I had the Byredo samples in mind as well, but completely slipped my mind.

Yes, I did try Straight to Heaven and liked it as well. In fact, I loved pretty much all of the Kilians, very nice line and packaging. Love and Cruel Intentions are my favorite, but I like Liaisons too. I can understand its appeal, it has rose as well, and usually rose fragrances are well liked. While I am not particularly a fan of rose in perfumes, this one was nice on my skin, maybe because the rose is not very *in your face*. I get plums as well, more like a marmalade :) I think of Liaisons as a *jammy rose* type of fragrance. I wouldn’t be able to go through an entire bottle of it, since it’s not really my style, but I enjoyed my whole sample of it. I agree with you on Beyond Love as well. I am not a tuberose fan either, in fact, most tuberose fragrances don’t work for me, but I enjoyed this one, it’s different.

Right now, I am waiting for some samples from the Boadicea line. Have you tried any? They have so many in the line!

  10. Comment by Madeleine on July 21, 2009 10:54 am

Boadicea? Aside from reading that Michele Obama bought some (not necessarily meaning that she also uses them :)), no, I haven’t tried nor really heard of them.

Of course we have samples for the fragrances we sell, but some lines just don’t do them (Nasomatto, Byredo, Clive, for example).
Back to Black I have only a vial that you use to refill your travel spray, so that can only be smelt at the store, not given away as a sample…
